How to Do a Paternity Test at Home Without the Father Knowing
There are a few different ways that you can do a paternity test at home without
the father knowing. One way is to use a discreet testing kit that allows you to collect the DNA sample without the father being aware. Another way is to use an at-home paternity testing kit that does not require a DNA sample from the father.
In this blog post, we will discuss both of these methods in more detail!

Handling Discrete Paternity Testing
When it comes to discrete paternity testing, the most important thing is to make sure that you are using a reputable company. There are many companies out there that claim to offer discreet paternity testing, but not all of them are created equal. Make sure that you do your research before choosing a company! Our company, Florida DNA Testing, is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks and promises over 99.999% accuracy on all of our relationship tests. Once you have found a reputable company, the next step is to collect the DNA sample from the father. This can be done in a number of ways, the most common method is to use a cheek swab. However, since you’re going to want to do it discretely – we do have other options.
How to Collect a Sample to Do a Paternity Test at Home Without the Father Knowing - Hair, a Toothbrush, or Fingernails
For the father’s sample, we can use a toothbrush, fingernails, or even hair samples. Keep in mind that if you’re using hair samples, the root of the hair must be intact. The root, or follicle, in other words, contains skin cells that are home to our DNA. We extract DNA from these skin cells in order to create a genetic profile for the participant. For the child’s sample, we can use a cheek swab – or any of the discrete samples mentioned above.
Once you have collected the DNA samples, you will need to send them off to our laboratory for analysis. The results of the paternity test will be sent back to you within 6 to 7 business days. We’ll deliver the results to you in a PDF report attachment in an email.
At-Home Paternity Testing Without the Father Being Involved
If you’re not in touch with the father, or the father refuses to participate in a paternity test, there are other options. You can use an at-home paternity test without the father’s involvement. This type of paternity test does not require a DNA sample from the father. Instead, it uses the child’s DNA and compares it to the sibling’s DNA. Or, we can also test aunts, uncles, or grandparents. Basically, any family member on the father’s side of the family could be tested, along with the child’s mother and the child.
By testing the mother, we have the opportunity to rule out the maternal DNA. This is important because the child will inherit some of the mother’s DNA. Once we have ruled out the maternal DNA, we can focus on identifying the father’s DNA.
Types of Paternity Test to Determine the Father, Without Actually Needing the Father
- Avuncular Testing: Paternal Aunt or Paternal Uncle - If the father is unavailable, we can test a paternal aunt or uncle.
- Grandparentage Testing: Paternal Grandparents - If both parents are unavailable, we can test the paternal grandparents. This type of paternity test is useful when there are questions about maternity as well as paternity.
- Paternal Siblingship Testing: If the father is unavailable, we can test the paternal siblings. This type of paternity test can be used to determine if two people are related.
